Expertise

Clare is a Legal Director in our IPE team based in London. Clare's background is in contentious construction, and she was previously part of our London Construction & Engineering team where she acted for a broad variety of clients on a range of construction and infrastructure projects. Clare is a dual-qualified barrister and solicitor.

Clare's practice is concentrated on PFI/PPP social infrastructure projects such as schools and hospitals, with a particular focus on handback, distressed projects and dispute avoidance. She has acted for numerous public and private sector clients over the course of the last 12 years and, owing to her disputes practice, has experience in all forms of dispute resolution including adjudication, arbitration, litigation, mediation and expert determination.

Prior to studying law Clare worked in the FM industry, and has a particular interest in operational matters in healthcare projects. Clare's practice allows her to continue to work closely with colleagues in the Construction & Engineering teams in London, Manchester and Leeds.

Clare's experience includes: 

  • Advising project companies (SPVs) in respect of ongoing operational and performance matters, and in respect of the handback of their projects to the public sector.
  • Advising public and private sector clients in respect of the DHSC's Centre of Best Practice condition surveys and related documentation, including standstill and settlement agreements.
  • Acting for a project company in a multimillion -pound dispute arising out of fire compartmentation defects at a hospital in England.
  • Acting for an NHS Trust in relation to a multimillion-pound dispute in respect of fire compartmentation defects at a mental health unit in England.
  • Acting for a leading UK contractor in respect of extensive pipework defects at a hospital in England.
