Gonzalo Olivera is the head of the Energy team in Spain. A lawyer with more than 20 years of experience, Gonzalo is an expert in regulated sectors. His main area of specialism is energy and infrastructure, but he also advises on other regulated sectors such as water, environment, and public contracts.

Gonzalo advises clients both in transactional and not transactional matters. This unique understanding of both Spanish Corporate and Public Law gives Gonzalo’s clients the scope to achieve commercial success in hugely diverse sectors. 

Over the last few years, Gonzalo has advised some of the main operators of the energy Iberian markets as well, as several international investors (including foreign utilities and E&I funds).

Some of the companies he has advised include, among others, GreenVolt, Sustainable Energy One, Activos en Renta Energía, Capital Dynamics, DWS, EDP Enegias de Portugal, EDP Renováveis, EKZ Renewables, Enercapital, Enertis Solar, Finerge, Igneo Infrastructure Partners, Alleans Renewables, Galp, MAPFRE, Metka EGN, MithraSol Ltd., REEF Energy, Capwatt, Suma Capital and Vapat.

Experience

Highlighted credentials include:

  • EDP Group: advice on the acquisition of Viesgo from Macquarie. Deal value: €2.7 billion.
  • Galp: advice on the acquisition from ACS Group of a portfolio of operating and under development PV projects in Spain with an expected installed capacity of 2.9 GW. Deal value: €2.2 billion.
  • EDP Energias de Portugal: advice on the €2.5 billion sale of Naturgás.
  • DWS: advice on its investments and divestments in Spain, including the acquisition of significant stakes in solar CSP plants, wind plants and LNG regasification plants (BBG and SAGGAS) in Spain.
  • EKZ Renewables: advice on the acquisition of several solar PV projects, in Spain.
